Fall 2012 Alumni Spotlight: Lou Gomlick ’57 Thankful for Gamma Omega Experience – He Encourages Brothers to Support Scholarship Program

When Lou Gomlick ’57 heard about Gamma Omega’s new scholarship program, he was thrilled. When he learned one of the scholarships would be named in his honor, he was speechless. “I really felt proud and elated. I’m so thankful that my brothers would think of me that way,” Lou said. “I think this scholarship program will bring more seriousness to the chapter. It’s important to recognize our undergraduate brothers for their success.”

After graduating from Penn State in 1957, Lou served as president of the alumni board for 10 years. About 10 years ago he served a second term as president for two years and now serves as chairman emeritus. “I wanted to give back to my chapter for everything it gave me,” he said. “Gamma Omega is really a great chapter.”

Lou encourages all of his brothers to rally together and show their support for Gamma Omega and its new scholarship program. His message to alumni is to “think back on your time in the house and what you gained from your experience that’s helped you throughout your life.”

When Lou thinks back on his own undergraduate years, he remembers all of the fun times he and his pledge brothers had. More importantly, he remembers the values and lessons he learned that turned him into the man he is today. “We always had to go to dinner in a jacket, shirt, and tie. We learned great manners and how to properly eat with utensils. I’ve always valued that,” he said. “We also learned how to get along with other people and to always respect our elders and peers. Those are the things that stick with you.”

Lou and his wife, Jane, reside in Aberdeen, New Jersey, and have three children: Suzy, Bill, and Judith. Lou retired from Bethlehem Shipbuilding Corporation in 1982 and started his own company, where he represents shipyards all over the country. He acts as a marketing agent between large ship owners and shipyards and handles their contracts for major repairs.

In his free time, Lou enjoys riding his bike, building remote control boat and car models, and drinking a few martinis every now and then. He also likes visiting the Gamma Omega chapter house and meeting the undergraduate brothers. He can be reached at [email protected].
